Operational Roles

Portfolios 

We have a variety of positions available across multiple portfolios for directors and associate directors, including:

  • Office of the President: Help with strategic planning, internal affairs, and overall direction.

  • Office of the Vice President Academic: Contribute to academic initiatives, the Arts Undergraduate Research Symposium, and advocacy efforts.

  • Office of the Vice President Communications: Engage with media content, photography, social media, and press relations.

  • Office of the Vice President Events: Plan and execute exciting events, and boost student engagement.

  • Office of the Vice President External: Coordinate outreach activities, manage the Street Team, and drive community engagement.

  • Office of the Vice President Operations and Finance: Oversee the Arts Student Lounge, review policies, and support financial operations.

  • Joint Directorships: Collaborate across portfolios on projects such as newsletters, websites, EDI initiatives, and fundraising.

Speaker

Role Overview: The Speaker is responsible for maintaining order and ensuring that all meetings of the General Council are conducted fairly, transparently, and in accordance with the FASA Constitution and Robert's Rules of Order.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preside over bi-weekly meetings of the General Council.

  • Assist the President in preparing the General Council agenda.

  • Enforce disciplinary procedures and receive complaints from General Council members.

  • Train FASA Council members on Robert’s Rules of Order and proper conduct during meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of Robert's Rules of Order.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to remain impartial and fair in all council dealings.

Chief Returning Officer (CRO)

Role Overview: The Chief Returning Officer oversees all election-related activities to ensure they are conducted fairly, transparently, and in accordance with FASA’s Election Policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute an election plan in alignment with FASA’s Election Policy.

  • Administer all voting stations and electronic forms across key campus locations.

  • Oversee the counting of all ballots and conduct the verification process.

  • Process nomination packages, prepare election materials, and present election results.

  • Handle election-related appeals and concerns.

 

Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to remain neutral and uphold integrity in all election matters.

  • Familiarity with election processes and policies is an asset.

Auditor

Role Overview: The Auditor is responsible for inspecting FASA's financial accounts, ensuring compliance with the bylaws, and providing recommendations to improve financial practices.

​

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect financial accounts and records to ensure they are accurate and comply with FASA’s bylaws.

  • Examine internal controls and recommend improvements to prevent errors in accounting.

  • Assess the effectiveness of FASA’s internal reporting procedures.

  • Identify any instances of fraudulent reporting and suggest corrective actions.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong background in finance, accounting, or a related field.

  • Keen attention to detail and analytical skills.

  • Experience with financial audits or reviews is an asset.

Director

Role Overview: A Director leads a specific team or portfolio within FASA and is responsible for overseeing its activities, strategies, and outcomes. Directors ensure that their team's goals align with the overall mission and vision of FASA.

​

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the activities of their designated team (e.g., Events, Communications, Academic Initiatives).

  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve team objectives.

  • Collaborate with other Directors and Vice Presidents to support FASA's initiatives.

  • Regularly report on the team's progress and activities to the Council.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership and project management skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.

  • Experience in the specific area of the portfolio (e.g., events planning, media relations).

Associate Director

Role Overview: The Associate Director supports the Director in managing their respective team's activities and contributes to achieving the team's objectives. This role involves assisting with day-to-day operations, event planning, and other team tasks.

​

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director in executing the team’s strategic plan and activities.

  • Help organize and manage events, workshops, or other initiatives related to the team's portfolio.

  • Collaborate with team members and other FASA groups to support cross-functional projects.

  • Contribute to team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and other collaborative efforts.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work well in a collaborative team setting.

  • Effective communication skills.
